Press on the Wall Beside It
Put your palm flat on the wall beside the damage and press, gently, before Sacramento Expert Drywall or anybody else quotes you. If it moves in and springs back, your plaster is still sound and it has simply let go of what it was gripping. That gets re-secured. It doesn't get demolished.
Springy but whole means the grip has gone and the surface is fine. Solid with a crack across it means the house moved, and that's a repair. Crumbling to powder under light pressure is the one case where a section has genuinely failed, and a wide hollow sound means the grip has let go across more than one bay.
Most quotes we see for plaster repair in Sacramento price the demolition version, because it's faster to sell and faster to do. We'll price both and tell you which one your wall actually needs.
